Interview with Mary Ellen Fischer
Mary Ellen Fischer came to Skidmore in 1975 as a professor of Soviet politics in what was then the Government department, now Political Science. She would later head the department and chair numerous college committees, leaving behind a legacy of intellectual excellence, commitment to community and an enduring work ethic. In a background interview, former colleague Ronald Seyb praised her for her leadership in their department and at the College. In this interview, Mary Ellen describes her experiences in these positions and her relationships with campus colleagues. She also reflects on the transition between campuses and the introduction of coeducation, as well as her scholarly travels.
