Abstract (& Historical Note)
An advertising image promoting the reach of NBC Affiliate KFYR of Bismarck, No. Dakota uses a cartoon style showing a radio tower over an outline map of North Dakota and surrounding states, with cartoon figures. The station broadcast at 550 KC and 5000 watts. The ad claims (with an asterisk) that the station 'comes in loud and clear in a larger area than any other station in the U.S.A.'.
According to the website Faded Signals, the station came on the air in 1925, founded by Phillip and Etta Meyer. From a golden era 1930s-1950s, the station carried NBC programming, swithcing to Top 40 in the 1960s. In 1966, KFYR-FM launched, switching up music genres until rturning to Top 40 in 2012. The Meyers sold the radio station -- and its sister TV station, on the air since 1953--and in 2014 Clear Channel Owned it by 2014.
