Abstract

Amy Godine is an independent scholar and historian who studies the Jewish history of Saratoga Springs, the Black experience in the Adirondacks, and other stories of marginalized communities and identities in the area. In this interview, she primarily discusses the Jewish history of Saratoga Springs, including the Seligman Affair, the draw of the mineral springs for Jewish immigrants, the "Gut" neighborhood, Jewish farmers outside city limits, and the often forgotten yet significant story of Jewish hotels and boardinghouses in Saratoga Springs, among other topics.
