<text>Gordon Thompson came to Skidmore in 1988 and retired in 2018. In those years he served as a member and then chair of the Music Department and director of the Asian Studies Program. He played an instrumental role in establishing the long-term success of the Asian Studies Program and in attracting world-renowned Indian musicians to perform on campus. He added to the curriculum with a range of courses on ethnomusicology and, first in the then-Regents College program in London and later in the campus curriculum, multiple courses on British pop and The Beatles. This led to launching of "Beatlemore Skidmania," a tremendously popular musical concert of Beatles music performed primarily by students, as well as some faculty and staff which raised substantial funds for "Skidmore Cares." Gordon served on multiple committees, including CEPP. In this interview he discusses his development as an ethnomusicologist and the evolution of the curriculum in the Music Department.</text>

<text>Barry Pritzker joined Skidmore’s Advancement team in 2000 as the institution’s first Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations. In this interview, he discusses the multifaceted background that gave him the writing skills, humanistic perspective, and interest in teaching and learning required for the role. Pritzker describes his position as a form of matchmaking: aligning foundation funding interests with Skidmore’s academic priorities to secure seed money for innovative programs. He identifies more than 20 programs that benefited from grants he secured. Using a prestigious Luce Foundation grant as an example, he explains the steps in this matchmaking process. His main challenge as CFR Director was persuading colleagues that grant requests should enhance programs rather than reduce budgets. Throughout his tenure at Skidmore, Pritzker collaborated with colleagues across the College, engaged in many lively, idea-filled conversations, and fulfilled his primary professional goal: strengthening Skidmore’s excellence and national visibility.</text>
